Biography

Dr. Sivashanmugan Kundan is a dedicated Research Associate whose work centers on advancing our understanding of cell mechanics and the development of plasmonic sensors for biomedical applications. With a robust academic foundation from Bharathiar University in India—where he earned his B.Sc., M.Sc., and M.Phil.—and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, Dr. Kundan has cultivated a multidisciplinary approach that integrates principles of nanotechnology, material science, and molecular biology.

Throughout his career, including valuable postdoctoral experiences at esteemed institutions such as the University of Houston, National Cheng Kung University, and Oregon State University, he has honed his expertise in nanofabrication, thin film deposition, and advanced material characterization. In his current role at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Dr. Kundan focuses on designing and optimizing plasmonic sensor platforms capable of probing the subtle mechanical properties of cells. His research aims to develop innovative biosensing technologies that can lead to enhanced diagnostics and therapeutic strategies.
