Biography
Prof. Oenardi Lawanto, Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of Engineering Education at Utah State University, USA. He is a leading academic and practitioner in the field of engineering education who has contributed significantly in developing innovative learning methods. He earned his B.S.E.E. from Iowa State University, M.S.E.E. from University of Dayton, and Ph.D. from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research interests are focused on how self-regulated learning and metacognition relate to the way we learn in school (and non-school) and online settings. Currently, he works on an NSF-funded project promoting research on both cognitive and metacognitive activities that take place in engineering design education and STEM. Prof. Oenardi Lawanto also developed and teaches graduate-level courses related to human cognition and online curriculum development. He also teaches Fundamentals of Electronics for undergraduate engineering students.
With more than three decades of experience in engineering and decades of teaching cognition-related courses, Prof. Lawanto has integrated educational principles with the specific needs of STEM fields. His research focuses on self-regulated learning, metacognition, and the development of innovative strategies and instructions in online learning, which are highly relevant to prepare the new generation for the challenges of the technological era. Her contributions in combining educational theory with STEM practice have improved the quality of teaching and strengthened the scientific foundation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
